Rainbow Camp is located near Sault Ste Marie (Canada), approximately one hour away from the Sault Ste Marie airport.
When you register for Rainbow Camp, there are three options for travel:
- My camper will be driven to and from camp.
- Rainbow Camp will book my camper's travel and I can pay the expense.
- Rainbow Camp will book my camper's travel and I am applying for a travel bursary. (For more information about our travel bursary program click here.)
Travel Options
If you are driving to Rainbow Camp, the exact location and driving directions will be shared with you by email approximately one month prior to camp.
Drop Off and Pick Up Times: 2:00-4:00pm. (Drop off and Pick up times are approximate, the exact times will be confirmed closer to camp.)
There will be a bus that runs from the Sault Ste Marie airport to Rainbow Camp for each session of camp. Campers coming from the Sault Ste Marie area are welcome to join us on the bus! Please indicate on your registration form whether you would like to ride the bus and more information will be sent out closer to the summer.
Is travel supervised? Yes, the bus from Sault Ste Marie is a private bus with only Rainbow Camp staff and campers on board.
Campers coming from the Sudbury area typically travel on the Ontario Northland Bus to Echo Bay (Ontario).
Is travel supervised? The Ontario Northlands bus is a public bus that is unsupervised by Rainbow Camp staff. A member of our staff team will meet campers at the Echo Bay bus stop and transport campers to Rainbow Camp.
Campers travelling from Southwestern Ontario typically fly from Toronto-Sault Ste Marie and meet the bus that runs from the airport to Rainbow Camp. We fly out of Toronto City (Billy Bishop) airport which is the smaller Toronto airport located in downtown Toronto. Families are responsible for getting their camper to/from the airport in time for the flight, Rainbow Camp is not responsible for any costs associated with missing or rescheduling flights due to late arrival.
Is travel supervised? Yes, travel from Toronto is fully supervised. There will be a Rainbow Camp staff member at the airport to meet with parents and they will travel with campers on both the flight and the bus directly to Rainbow Camp.
If you are travelling from a location not listed above, travel will be booked on a case by case basis. The closest airport to Rainbow Camp is the Sault Ste Marie airport (YAM) and we will do our best to coordinate arrival and departure times to ensure that campers are able to participate in as much of Rainbow Camp as possible.
We will book travel and send travel information to camper families. Families are responsible for getting their camper to/from the airport in time for the flight, Rainbow Camp is not responsible for any costs associated with missing or rescheduling flights due to late arrival.
Is travel supervised? Travel is unsupervised. There will be a Rainbow Camp staff member at the Sault Ste Marie airport to meet up with campers and travel with them from the airport to Rainbow Camp.
ID and Passport Requirements
All campers are required to have a piece of government-issued ID that matches the name and gender on their ticket for travel. On the registration form, there will be a location to include camper's legal name. This will only be used for the purpose of booking travel and will be kept confidential.
For campers travelling from the United States, they are required to have a valid passport in order to cross the border.
Once campers arrive at camp, we have a secure location for them to store any ID/passports for the duration of camp along with any personal electronics used for the purpose of travel.
Travel Costs
Everyone is required to pay a minimum $25 non-refundable booking fee for all travel. This amount will be included in your final travel costs.
Once travel has been booked (April-June), the travel costs will be added to your online account and you will be notified by email. Travel costs are due by September 1st and can be paid by credit card, e-transfer or cheque. We can also set up a payment plan and/or schedule multiple payments if needed.
