We invite all interested parties to submit proposals for participation in our third conference! Welcome Friend Association is a grassroots community effort that works to promote visibility of LGBTQ issues not only in Sault Ste. Marie and Northern Ontario, but in society in general. In small cities and towns, expressions of prejudice are often seen as the primary focus of attention on Queer folks. However as any identity is complex, living in the rural north and other rural areas as a Queer-identified person has both its struggles and its celebrations – and indeed many of us have felt more welcomed here at home than in the larger urban centres. We look forward to conference participants engaging in conversations about the dilemmas, struggles, and triumphs of living in smaller or rural communities. Come and share your ideas about how to engage in community, how to support other Queer folks, how to confront prejudice, and how to live pridefully.
We welcome ideas for participation of a variety of types: 15-minute presentations, short videos, moderated discussions, posters, etc.
Call for presentations due date: November 30, 2012
Submissions may be emailed to conference@welcomefriend.ca or sent to Welcome Friend Association, PO Box 242, 76 Dawson Street, Thessalon, ON P0R 1L0
