A Camp for LGBTQ & Allied Youth ages 12-17

http://www.dreamstime.com/-image22088354Welcome Friend Association’s Rainbow Camp® is a one-week camp for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer questioning, and allied (LGBTQA) youth, their siblings and children in Queer families. WFA’s Rainbow Camp is committed to developing a camp community which honours creativity, individual choice, and social justice while having fun!!!

WFA’s Rainbow Camp®  provides opportunities for campers to make new friends and develop skills through traditional camp programming and innovative curriculum. More than anything, our Rainbow Camp is a fun place to come OUT and be yourself!

Rainbow Camp’s® Leaders-in-Training (LIT) Program

Program description:

This two-week program is designed for 18 year olds that identify as LGBTQ2A+.  The first week will focus on leaderships, team-based activities, and social change.  In the second week, LITs will have opportunities to employ their leadership skills with younger campers with the support of Rainbow Camp® counsellors as mentors.  The Rainbow Camp® LIT program aims to foster skills in collaboration, accountability and leadership through the eyes of a camp counsellor and leaders in the LGBTQ2A+ community.  In addition to the leadership programming, LITs will have opportunities to participate in traditional camp activities such as swimming, canoeing, campfires and crafts.

Topics covered will include:

  • Communication skills
  • Supporting young people / Behaviour management
  • Social change and activism
  • Anti-oppression
  • Health and safety
  • Resume writing
  • Goal setting and personal growth

Participants in the LIT program must commit to the entire two-week session Aug 13-25, 2017.  The cost of the program is $500.  Scholarships are available to help offset this cost.

Camp equips these kids to return to their home communities and activities feeling confident, energized and better able to live authentically.

Our camp offers a combination of traditional programming activities in areas such as:

  • gender
  • sexuality

  • creating safe spaces
