James Loney


James Loney is a Canadian peace activist who is a member of Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT). In November 2005, he and the CPT delegation he was leading was kidnapped in Iraq and held for four months. One member of the group was killed, an American named Tom Fox. In addition to Iraq, he has served on CPT projects in Palestine; Burnt Church, New Brunswick; Grassy Narrows, Kenora and Robertsville, Ontario. While Loney was held hostage, his family and partner, Dan Hunt, witheld his sexual orientation out of fear for his safety. He is a founding member of the Toronto Catholic Worker, a community that welcomes and lives with people in need of housing. He and his partner live in Toronto as part of the extended Catholic Worker community. Loney is at the ends stages of writing a book about his experiences in Iraq.
